England

England secured their knockout stage spot after the second round. They beat Serbia (1:0) and ended their game versus Denmark in a draw (1:1). The third round saw a draw (0:0) against Slovenia. England topped their group. This was the fourth consecutive time that England finished the group stage without losing a game. England scored only two goals in the group stage in the previous European Championship, too and finally reached the final.

England – Slovakia Prediction

The way England have played can’t be called brilliant. This goes even beyond the current tournament. Gareth Southgate prefers a pragmatic style. The result is above everything. Entertainment is not a priority. Due to this strategy England managed to reach the UEFA Euro final in 2021, for the first time in their history. This is how everything’s going to work in this knockout stage too.

Β

England scored only two goals in the group stage, conceding just once. Over 2 goals in regular time have been scored only in 1 out of the last 10 European Championship games England have played.

Β

Slovakia will contribute to this style too. They won’t rush into attacks against England. They’re likely to play in the way they did versus Belgium. Slovakia can keep the defensive line. They haven’t conceded over 1 goal in 11 out of their last 14 official games.

Β

Our prediction isΒ Under 2.5 at 13/20 .

Betting tips 30 Jun 2024

Still the main favourites of the tournament. Still the most boring side of this EURO. Only one victory in their three games. Only two goals scored. Perhaps, England still have something to say. Or maybe they will never reach the final. Anyway, it’s not going to be the game where we will find answers to our questions. England topped their group and they will face an opponent that, at least before the start of the game, seems to be an easy option to beat.

Slovakia have qualified to the knockout phase from the most bizarre group of the tournament. All four sides were tied on points. Slovakia finished ahead of Ukraine on tiebreakers. But they didn’t manage to get above Belgium and Romania. It’s quite hard to say what Slovakia really can. They beat Belgium thanks to tons of moments their opponents, especially Lukaku, wasted. They seemed to agree to tie with Romania after about the 70thΒ minute of the game. From what we have seen, Slovakia don’t seem to be a tough opponent.

The only thing that Slovakia proved is that they had a prettyΒ good defensive line. However, Belgium were about to break it on many occasions. It was just a matter of luck for Slovakia that their opponents failed to do it. Ukraine did, though. And Romania never really needed it.

I believe that England, finally, will show their best skills. If they don’t beat Slovakia in the way many people expect them to, then I don’t know why England are here. If they reach the final in this manner, it’s going to be like Greece in 2004. Effective. Yet terribly boring. I guess we’ve had enough of this style. It’s time to show real football.
